Armenia may consider buying American weapons
Armenia may consider buying American weapons if it receives a beneficial offer from the United States, stated Armenian Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Saturday October 27, Interfax reported.
“The government is not limited to anything. If we receive a beneficial offer, we will consider it,” the politician said.
Earlier in October, during a visit to Yerevan, US National Security Advisor John Bolton suggested that the Armenian government may buy American weapons instead of Russian ones. The US National Security said that “American equipment is better than Russia’s anyway”.
Last December, the Armenian Parliament ratified an agreement with Russia, according to which Moscow would provide Yerevan with a line of credit for $100 million to finance the purchase of Russian military equipment.
In February 2016, Moscow allocated a $200 million state export loan to Yerevan for the purchase of weapons from Russia. Armenia used these funds to buy Smerch multiple rocket launchers and ammunition for them, Igla-S anti-aircraft missile systems and missiles for it, Avtobaza-M ground-based electronic intelligence reconnaissance systems and other types of weapons.
