Maduro promises to bring 4G to Venezuela with Russia’s help
President Nicolás Maduro during his speech at the exhibition of innovations and technologies of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces said that Venezuela wants to increase country's telecommunications capabilities and create a 4G communication system with the help of Russian and Chinese technologies, reports Venezolana de Television TV channel.
Maduro stated that the National Corporation for telecommunications and postal services was established. It will be headed by Jorge Marquez who is the head of the Monitoring and Supervision Unit of the Public Administration of the Presidential Cabinet.
Maduro also noted that Venezuela has already engaged in satellite-based telecommunications and he has also asked to make every effort to ensure that the country has a fast Internet connection.
"I gave orders to attract the investments which will allow raising telecommunications to a new level in cooperation with the Chinese technologies, Huawei technologies, as well as technologies of Russian companies and to make 4G system a reality in Venezuela , so that Venezuela would have fast communications, Internet, and telephone systems," said Maduro.
The President did not specify which Russian companies Caracas wants to cooperate with. He also did not specify the amount of money that is planned to be invested in the project.
He also said that the restrictions imposed by the US against Huawei are "an aggressive step." Last week, the US Department of Commerce blacklisted Chinese company after President Donald Trump declared a national emergency to “deal with the threat posed by the unrestricted acquisition or use in the United States of information and communications technology… supplied by persons owned by, controlled by, or subject to the jurisdiction or direction of foreign adversaries”. However, Huawei can still operate in the US for 90 days.
