Netherlands forms ruling coalition consisting of anti-Russian parties
The formation of a coalition government was completed in the Netherlands on October 26. This process, which took over seven months, had become the longest in the history of the country. According to observers, the country's new government may act against Russia's interests.
The ruling coalition included the party of Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), as well as right-wing liberals, the centrist Democrats D66 party, and two Christian parties - the Christian Union and the Christian Democratic Appeal. As media reports, the government consists of representatives from parties that support Ukraine and its European integration. This primarily applies to Rutte's VVD party and the Democrats D66.
In addition, the necessity “to reduce dependence on oil from the Middle East and gas from Russia" was named as one of the tasks of the coalition. According to the International Energy Agency, the Netherlands imported 38 billion cubic meters of gas in 2015, with Russia as its second-largest supplier after Norway.
Furthermore, Amsterdam intends to "do everything possible" to punish the perpetrators of the Boeing crash in the Donbas in 2014. Meanwhile, according to the findings of the investigation team, responsibility for this tragedy lies with Russia.
