Poland plans to increase gas exports to Ukraine
In 2016, Poland exported more than 400 million cubic meters of natural gas to Ukraine. That amount may increase many times over in the future, as reported by Radio Poland citing by the deputy head of the oil and gas concern PGNiG, Matthew Wozniak. He noted that gas is sold to Ukraine at a profit and within the framework of a safe payment system.
“We hope that PGNiG will expand and increase the capacity of its gas pipeline in the Germanovitse station, which links Ukraine to Poland, and thus increase export,” added Wozniak.
Presently, the pipeline at Germanovitse can transport 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Poland calculates that by 2019-2020, it will be able to multiply by several times the amount of gas it exports to Ukraine.
Plans are underway to construct a new pipeline between the Germanovitse station in Poland to the Bilche-Volitsa station in Ukraine. The total length of the pipeline will be 112 km.
Ukraine has not purchased gas from Russian for a period of 400 days. All of the necessary gas for the autumn-winter season is purchased from countries in the European Union (EU).
This winter Slovakia increased the amount of gas it sends to Ukraine. In fact, it is through Slovakia that Ukraine receives most of its gas from the EU.
