Russian President Vladimir Putin saw Lieutenant-General Michael Flynn, former U.S. National Security Advisor, but was not acquainted with him. The head of Russia said this in an interview with NBC, an excerpt of which is posted on the American television network’s website.

Putin was asked to explain how, in 2015, Flynn was sitting at a table with him at a reception for the news channel Russia Today. According to the Russian leader, when he arrived at the event, a certain gentleman was sitting next to him at the table. “I gave a speech, then we talked, and then I got up and left,” Putin continued, clarifying that only later was he informed that it was an American who had worked with the secret service in the past.

The president of the Russian Federation stated that he had not really had time to talk with the man. By way of comparison, Putin said that he is “better acquainted” with NBC TV hostess Megyn Kelly, who interviewed the Russian leader and spoke with him over a period of two days at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Flynn accepted the position of National Security Advisor to the current U.S. president in January of this year. However, on February 13th, he was fired because he did not fully inform U.S. Vice President Michael Pence about his contact with the Russian ambassador in Washington, Sergey Kislyak. Politico magazine, citing unnamed sources in the White House, reports that Trump now regrets the decision to fire Flynn and considers it a mistake.
