Russia has prepared a response to the US' 'plan B' in Syria
An increase of firepower support for Bashar al-Assad’s Army may be Russia's response to the United States’ "Plan B" for Syria. Izvestia newspaper published the details with reference to the Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Frantz Klintsevich.
"The General Staff also has special plans to combat terrorists, as they will pay more attention to our units and bases in Syria than to the Syrian Armed Forces,” Klintsevich said.
A high-ranking military source told the newspaper that the Russian Defense Ministry had prepared a comprehensive plan that also included the military and political measures both within Syria and abroad.
"A series of military and political measures has been worked out in case the U.S. withdraws from negotiations on Syria and switches over to their so-called Plan B that, among other things, may provide for increased aid to anti-government forces in Syria,” the source says.
On October 3rd, the US State Department stopped participating in the bilateral negotiations with Russia on Syria. Washington withdrew its representatives that until that point had to supervise the implementation of the peace agreements. The United States continues to rely on military contracts with Russia in order to "avoid conflicts in the air."
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed regret about the decision of its American colleagues and accused the USA of shifting the responsibility for their mistakes.
