Russian government further limits food imports
The Russian government approved a list of 23 types of imported food that will be subject to restrictions. The list includes foods included in purchases for schools, kindergartens and other public institutions.
The list includes processed and preserved fish, caviar and caviar substitutes, crustaceans and mollusks, beef, veal, pork, poultry, milk and dairy products, as well as other food.
“Foods included in the list are produced in Russia and the EEU [Eurasian Economic Union] in sufficient volumes,” the statement says. Restrictions apply only to purchases for state and municipal needs, including procurement for schools, kindergartens, hospitals, military and other government agencies.
According to the government website, all proposals for the supply of food products originating from foreign countries, with the exception of the Eurasian Economic Union, will be rejected. At the moment, the Eurasian Economic Union consists of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
