Ukraine and Canada agree to hold consultations on visa liberalization
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, stated at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, that Ukraine and Canada have agreed to hold consultations on visa liberalization between the two countries. “We have agreed to start immediate consultations on visa liberalization. I thank Canada that we are able to start this project,” Poroshenko said.
Poroshenko noted that the majority of visas issued to Ukrainians by the Canadian Embassy follow the validity period of the passport. “This is already an implementation of that cooperation program that we started,” Poroshenko stated. He added that the Ukrainian side is working hard with Canada to reduce the number of denials to Ukrainian citizens when applying for Canadian visas.
In turn, the Prime Minister of Canada confirmed that the visa issue is extremely important for Ukrainians and noted that the work in this direction will be significantly strengthened in order to simplify the process.
“The Free Trade Agreement that we signed today will make a considerable contribution to the development of investments and business between our countries. It is obvious that we expect that increasing numbers of people will visit both countries,” Trudeau said. The Prime Minister of Canada also added that the work in the direction of visa liberalization will be activated in the coming months.
