Iran renews negotiations with Russia on construction of a new nuclear power plant
According to the Tasnim news agency, Iran renewed negotiations with Russia on the construction of a new nuclear power plant that will be able to produce up to 3,000 megawatts of electricity, announced Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanyan on Saturday.
At present, Iran has the opportunity to produce nuclear power at a reactor with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, reported Tasnim.
Iran already has one Russian nuclear reactor located in Busher. It was the first reactor launched in the country. In 2014, Russia signed an agreement with Iran on the construction of eight more reactors.
In May, the United States withdrew from the "nuclear deal" with Iran, under which Tehran committed itself to curtailing the nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions. In August, the US administration imposed new sanctions against Iran.
