Lukashenko sees danger in how Belarus-Russia relations are developing
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that he is concerned about the negative dynamics in the development of relations between Belarus and Russia.
“We have a large debt under the Union State treaty. We lost a lot on many fronts. But the worst thing is that on some issues we are losing ground,” said Lukashenko.
He also mentioned the restoration of border zones on the Belarusian-Russian border.
We were proud of the fact that both Russians and Belarusians have equal rights here. Now we are already starting to fool around at the border. The Russians have brought the border guards to the border, and customs officials are, without explanation, beginning to block goods. People from other countries only travel through international checkpoints – in other words, people already distrust us. This is a serious danger, and we are beginning to lose ground,” he said.
Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a protocol for an agreement between Russia and Belarus on the creation of a unified air defense system. Its provisions clarify the conceptual agreement that was signed in 2009. They also make amendments to the organizational and staffing structure of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the procedure for the use of weapons and equipment by air defense duty officers in the joint performance of duties.
