President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko refused to participate in the Munich Conference because he will be having talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

Lukashenko was to take part in a panel discussion with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Georgia and the OSCE Secretary General.

“However, literally at the very last moment certain temporary issues arose. The need to resolve important issues in the Belarusian-Russian relations during negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi makes the participation of the Belarusian president in the Munich Conference impossible,” stated the Foreign Ministry of Belrus.

The 55th Munich Security Conference started on February 15. 

The conference participants, about 600 people, will hold discussions on global and regional crises and risks, cyber security, the arms race and arms control, the future of NATO and transatlantic relations, as well as the role of the EU as a player in security and defense.
