Moldovan MPs call on the Constitutional Court to suspend powers of President Dodon
Deputies from the Democratic Party of Moldova appealed to the Constitutional Court with a request to clarify the conditions necessary to appoint an acting President, Newsmaker.md reported.
The appeal to the Constitutional Court was submitted by deputies of the Democratic Party, Sergei Syrbu and Corneliu Padnevich. It was reported that the request was registered "on behalf of the parliamentary legal commission."
"We asked the Constitutional Court to resolve the institutional crisis provoked by the President's refusal to appoint new ministers," Syrbu said. He specified that the deputies asked the judges to consider their request urgent.
Syrbu expressed hope that there would be a functional government in Moldova by Christmas. "Perhaps it will be an unpleasant gift for the President for the New Year, but he himself provoked this crisis," the deputy said.
Syrbu was referring to Moldovan President Igor Dodon’s repeated rejection of candidates for the posts of ministers proposed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.
Earlier, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated that if the President refuses to sign a decree on the appointment of new ministers, the government would be compelled to apply to the Constitutional Court with a demand to establish the temporary execution of the President's duties by another person.
