Moldovan Prime Minister: Chisinau will not change its position on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria
Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Chisinau will not change its position regarding the inclusion of the issue of withdrawing foreign military personnel from the territory of the republic to the UN General Assembly’s agenda.
Earlier, the permanent representative of Moldova to the United Nations, Victor Moraru, sent a letter to the UN Secretary General stating that the country expects to include the issue of withdrawing foreign military personnel in the upcoming 72nd session of the General Assembly.
“You know what the position of Chisinau is, because we expressed it before the United Nations. Therefore, it seems to me that there is nothing to comment on,” said Filip, remarking on Moscow’s request to exclude the topic of withdrawal of foreign military personnel from the territory of the republic from discussion at the UN General Assembly.
The day before, Moldovan President Igor Dodon said that the issue of the withdrawal of the Russian military from Transnistria would not go beyond simple declarations.
In addition, Dodon believes that the Moldovan government has already realized its mistake and “backed up” by making amendments to the declaration. He also stressed that the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria could lead to “the disruption of the peacekeeping operation in the conflict zone.”
Earlier, Russia rejected Moldova’s proposal to discuss the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria at the UN General Assembly in September.
