New Prime Minister of Poland calls for closer ties with Ukraine
The new Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, said in his first speech to the Sejm that his government will pursue a policy of rapprochement of the countries of the region, including Ukraine, Radio Poland writes.
"This applies in particular to the Visegrad Group and the Three Seas Initiative. We also want to return to the real strategic partnership in the east and intend to expand our relations with Ukraine, Lithuania, and Georgia and provide them with a new position, although it takes two to tango," Morawiecki said from the rostrum of the Polish Sejm, presenting the program of the Council of Ministers.
In addition, Mateusz Morawiecki said that his government will closely cooperate with the Polish diaspora and defend the good name of Poland abroad.
"Poland is not only citizens who live in Poland, but also Poles scattered all over the world, we will strengthen repatriation programs. We have 60 million people all over the world, we have obligations to all Poles, and they have duties as well," Morawiecki said. The Prime Minister stressed that his government’s goal will be to encourage the return of as many Poles as possible to their homeland.
The head of government also said that Warsaw would not agree to the "two-speed Europe."
Morawiecki said that Europe is still recovering from the financial crisis that erupted 10 years ago, and Poland does not want to "separate and leave someone behind, we do not agree to divide Europe into better and worse." He noted that increasingly in the EU "someone gets a head start, and not those who are weaker, but those who are stronger" and that it is wrong.
The ministers of the government of Beata Szydło have so far retained their posts in the new cabinet of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Piotr Gliński and head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Jarosław Gowin preserved their posts as Deputy Prime Ministers. The third Deputy Prime Minister is the former head of the Polish government, Beata Szydło.
