Canada’s Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion said that the statements about Ukrainian Diaspora made by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, were inadmissible. Liga.net reported that Dion was quoted by Boris Wrzesnewskyj, a member of Canadian Parliament.

In particular, Dion noted that Canada is outraged by the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory, and emphasized Ukraine's important role in Canada’s history. “We absolutely disagree with this invasion and with Russian government interference in Ukraine’s affairs. We do not intend to sit quietly while the Russian minister humiliates the representatives of Ukraine in Canada. We owe so much to the representatives of Ukraine in Canada and will always support them,” he said. The Minister also announced his visit to Ukraine in the next few days.

Earlier the President of the Ukrainian Congress in Canada, Pavel Grod, stated that Canada is going to be in active dialogue with Russia concerning the inadmissibility of its actions in Ukraine. For his part, Lavrov stated that in the years under Stephen Harper’s tenure as Prime Minister of Canada, Ottawa “has followed a course of blindly pursuing the demands of rabid representatives of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Canada.”
