Date of elections in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic moved to July 24
The separatist leader of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) signed a decree to change the date of elections from April 20 to July 24. On Tuesday, April 19, the website of the "News of the Donetsk Republic" published a photocopy of the decree that postponed the vote signed by the leader of the separatists, Alexander Zakharchenko.
Local elections in the breakaway republics is one of the key points of the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine. At the same time, according to the Minsk Agreements, elections in the Donbas must be held in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation and under strict international control.
The so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics announced the elections for local authority bodies in the autumn of 2015. This was perceived by Kiev, as well as by international mediators, as an attempt to disrupt the Minsk Agreement. After the meeting of the "Normandy Four" leaders in Paris in October 2015, the separatists announced the postponement of the elections. The LPR reported that the vote will take place in February and the DPR in April 2016. Later, Luhansk decided to postpone the date of their election to April.
