Head of Crimea thanks French investor for French Senate's call to lift sanctions on Russia

The head of Russian-Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, while speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, thanked the President of French investment company Thomas Vendome, Jean-Pierre Thomas, for "his fundamentally friendly attitude" toward Russia and the Crimea. This was reported by the press service of Sergey Aksyonov.

"In many ways, his [Jean-Pierre Thomas’s] personal position played an important role in the decision of the Parliament of France to ease sanctions against Russia. When honorable people visit us and then tell others in their country what is actually happening in the Crimea, it is worth a lot. I am sure that Russia and the Crimea have nothing to fear with friends like that. We thank Mr. Thomas from the bottom of our hearts; thank you [Mr. Thomas] for your position," Aksyonov said.

In early June the upper house of the French parliament, the Senate, adopted a resolution proposing to revise the economic sanctions against Russia and to seek the resumption of talks with Moscow. However, diplomatic sources in Brussels said that, despite the efforts of "Putin's friends" in France and other EU countries, the sanctions against Russia will be extended before the end of June for another six months.
