Herashchenko appeals to Russia to provide information on children illegally taken from Ukraine
The representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian sub-group in the Minsk negotiations and Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Iryna Herashchenko, said that Ukraine once again appealed to Russia to provide information on children illegally taken from the territory of Ukraine.
"We also expressed deep concern that international humanitarian organizations, including UNICEF, were not allowed access to children and special children's institutions in the occupied territories. We are ready to evacuate children's homes for the terminally ill, bedridden children from Luhansk region and involve the Red Cross International Committee in this process, if there is consent from a second party,” Herashchenko wrote on her Facebook page.
According to Herashchenko, the problem of protecting children’s rights will be discussed during the next meeting of the humanitarian group in order “to reach a solution, and not only to voice concerns once again.” Russia did not comment on these statements.
In June, Radio Liberty reported that 50 homeless children from the Luhansk region are now within the territory of the Russian Federation and look forward to returning to Ukraine.
According to the latest UN data, since the beginning of the fighting in the Donbas region, 9,371 people have been killed and 21,523 people have been injured. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, also revealed that 68 children were killed and 186 were wounded during two years of hostilities in the Donbas region.
