More than 20 people detained in Kyiv for planning armed protest near Polish embassy

The police and the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) detained more than two dozen people who were planning an armed protest at the Polish embassy in the center of Kyiv, as reported by Serhiy Knyazev, the Chief of National Police of Ukraine, on Facebook.

According to him, the detainees were armed.

“More than two dozen irresponsible citizens, who had become an instrument in the hands of the Kremlin propaganda, were detained. Weapons, cartridges, gas cartridges, electric shockers, knives, ignition blends, masks, posters and other tools prepared for the provocation have already been confiscated from the detainees,” Knyazev informed.

The planned provocation was aimed at undermining good-neighborly relations between Ukraine and Poland and discrediting Ukraine in the eyes of the international community, the police believe.

“According to available information, this is another element of the ‘hybrid’ war being conducted by the Russian Federation against our state,” the Chief of National Police wrote.

“All of this was done to create the ‘correct picture’ for the European media, about riots at the Polish Consulate in the center of the capital of Ukraine,” he added.

Criminal proceedings were initiated for attempting to commit hooliganism, under part 1 of Article 15 and part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
