Iran allows Russia to use its military bases

Iranian authorities have decided to allow Russia to use Iranian military bases to make air strikes on militants of the Islamic State in Syria “in specific cases.”

This was told to Reuters by Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“Russia does not have a military base in Iran, we have a good relationship, and in specific instances when Russia needs to use Iranian facilities to fight terrorism, we will consider the matter,” Zarif said.

According to the minister, regional issues, including those in Syria, would be discussed during the talks in Moscow.

On Monday, March 27th, an Iranian delegation led by President Hassan Rouhani arrived for a visit in Moscow.

With regard to the conflict in Syria, Iran is on the side of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, supplying troops to support the battle against opposition and terrorist groups that have gained strength during the course of the conflict.

As was reported, the UN called on Russia, Iran and Turkey to uphold the Syrian ceasefire.
