Medvedev: Russia must give up the illusion that the sanctions will be lifted soon
The Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, said that Russia should give up the illusion about the lifting of the sanctions, UNIAN reported.
"It's time to part with the illusion that the anti-Russian sanctions that were imposed on our country will be lifted in the near future. It's obvious that everything that has happened will last for a long time. We cannot put our hopes in the results of elections in foreign countries to affect this issue," Medvedev said during his speech at the congress of the Russian ruling party, United Russia.
At the same time, he said that Russia will manage to feed itself in any situation and that the farmers need to utilize this fortunate for them situation with the sanctions, so as to provide for Russians.
On Sunday, Medvedev was re-elected as a Chairman of the United Russia party.
The initiative for his nomination was put forward by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party, Boris Gryzlov. Also, on Sunday at the XVI Congress of the Party, Gryzlov was himself re-elected as a Chairman of the Supreme Council of United Russia.
As it is known, in 2014 the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and several other countries imposed sanctions against Russia following Russia’s annexation of the Crimea and the destabilization of the situation in the east of Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump, who took office recently, had previously talked about a possibility of reducing or even lifting sanctions imposed against Russia. However, in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump said that the sanctions will continue "for some time."
