Medvedev: The delivery of S-300 missile systems to Iran isn’t contrary to good relations between Russia and Israel
The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, stated that the delivery of S-300 missile systems to Iran by Russia aren’t contrary to good relations between Russia and Israel. Russia isn’t interested in aggravating tensions and thus acts within current realities.
”No, they aren’t contrary. We have warm relations with Israel and intend to further develop them. For this, I’m going to Israel,” Medvedev stated in his interview with Israeli Channel 2, in response to the question of whether Russia’s said actions would be detrimental to relations with Israel. At the same time, Medvedev noted that Russia has relations with other countries of the region, including Iran.
The Prime Minister reminded listeners that Russia joined the previous sanctions against Iran and no weapons were supplied then.
“We didn’t supply any types of weapons at that period, while sanctions were active. As President, I imposed a moratorium on supply of well-known missile systems, I mean S-300. However, after an agreement was reached by all states concerning Iran’s nuclear program, all previously imposed sanctions were lifted and we act within those realities that currently exist. That is the situation,” Medvedev stated.
The Prime Minister added that Russia isn’t interested in aggravating tensions in the region. “However, of course, we aren’t interested in aggravating tensions though we are going to build full-fledged relations with Iran,” the Russian Prime Minister said. “Recently, the relations on the economic component and issues related to the supply of weapons and military equipment have significantly intensified,” Medvedev added.
