OSCE: Russia should end its occupation of Georgian territories
On Tuesday July 5th, the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE in Tbilisi adopted a resolution entitled "Conflict in Georgia," which was provided by Georgia. The document consists of 17 paragraphs. It states, in particular, that Russia should "reverse their decision on the recognition of Georgian territories and end the occupation of Georgian territories."
According to the resolution, Russia, in defiance of international requests, continues to violate international law, "and ignores the ceasefire agreement created on 12 August 2008.
Russia is continuing its policy of occupation and creeping annexation of Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions through so-called "integration treaties,” the document stresses.
The OSCE called on Russia to respect the principles of international law, implement the ceasefire agreement, allow all refugees to return to their places of origin and also allow international human rights monitoring of citizens on the ground.
The head of Russia's delegation, Nikolay Kovalev, called the resolution "politicized and anti-Russian."
