Poroshenko: Ukraine opened first nuclear research lab 'for peaceful purposes'
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the US ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, took part in the launch of the Neutron Source Facility on March 23. The research lab is located at the National Science Center, Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology.
"The Neutron Source Facility will allow Ukraine to conduct research in various fields of science and technology, produce almost the entire spectrum of radioisotopes for needs of medicine and industry, as well as solve problems of the Ukrainian nuclear power industry, extending the life of the nuclear power plants," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.
The President of Ukraine called this project, which was developed with support from the US, an example "of cooperation in the field of nuclear safety and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons." Specialists from Germany, China, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and France are also working with the Ukrainian scientists.
During his speech at the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs on March 23rd, Poroshenko expressed his readiness to support "any Prime Minister candidate who will be proposed by the parliamentary coalition."
