Poroshenko urges international community to not recognize Russian elections in Crimea

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has stressed the importance of maintaining the non-recognition policy of the illegal annexation of the Crimea, where the human rights situation is catastrophically deteriorating. This includes the use of punitive Soviet-style medicine. This was said at a meeting of the Ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union.

Poroshenko also urged the non-recognition of the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections in the Russian Federation, which Moscow is trying to hold in the Crimea.

He added that Ukraine remains a strong supporter of a political and diplomatic resolution of the situation in the Donbas. He noted that currently, the main efforts should be aimed at ensuring Russia’s compliance with the security section of the Minsk Agreements.

“Sanction pressure on Moscow has shown its effectiveness and should be maintained until the full restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country,” Poroshenko stressed.

The parties also discussed the immediate release of hostages and political prisoners who are being illegally detained in Russia and in the occupied territories.

The meeting with Poroshenko was attended by: Canadian Ambassador, Roman Waschuk; Japanese Ambassador, Shigeki Sumi; French Ambassador, Isabelle Dumont; British Ambassador, Judith Gough; US Ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch; German Ambassador, Ernst Reichel; Italian Ambassador, Davide La Cecilia and head of the EU representation, Hugues Mingarelli.
