Putin's party asserted that the Donetsk People’s Republic is not a state

United Russia, President Putin’s home party stated that the recognition of passports from the DPR and LPR will not lead to the exclusion of Deputy Iosif Kobzon from the State Duma.

Deputies of the Russian Parliament cannot have dual citizenship and Kobzon presumably has a DPR-issued passport. However, the first Deputy Head of the executive committee of United Russia, Konstantin Mazurevsky, explained that the passport of the DPR does not mean the existence of DPR citizenship, since the DPR is not a state.

"Iosif Davydovich Kobzon is not a citizen of a foreign state because the Donetsk People's Republic is not a state. It is necessary to understand the difference between the recognition of certain documents and the international recognition of the state," RIA Novosti quoted Mazurevsky as saying.

On February 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that recognizes documents issued by the DPR and LPR such as identification, certificates of education and qualifications, birth certificates, marriage and divorce certificates, change of name, death certificates, certificates of registration of vehicles and registration plates of vehicles.

United Russia is a powerful party in the Russian Federation and is chaired by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
