Russia prepares retaliatory measures for US sanctions
According to the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, Russia has begun to develop retaliatory measures after the latest expansion of sanctions by Washington, RIA Novosti reported.
"We regret this [step by the US]. And it is with this feeling once again of missed opportunities to move towards improving our bilateral relations that we begin to work out our response measures," Ryabkov specified.
According to Ryabkov, Washington "plays into the hands of the war party in Kyiv"; that is, those who do not want a settlement, and those who are interested in disrupting the Minsk agreements.
Previously, the US Treasury Department introduced restrictive measures against 38 people and organizations in connection with the situation in Ukraine. Among others in the list was a private Russian military company (PMC) "Wagner" and, individually, its leader, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Utkin. The sanctions also affected the firms of businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, Concord Catering and Concord Management and Consulting. Restrictions are also imposed against subsidiaries of Transneft – Chernomortransneft, Giprotruboprovod, the non-state pension fund Transneft and other entities. Among the individuals on the list are a member of the Federation Council, the Russian president's Special Representative for interaction with Russian organizations of compatriots abroad Alexander Babakov, and two of his employees - Alexander Vorobev and Mikhail Plisyuk.
11 people and organizations from the Crimea, organizations of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), as well as Central Banks of these republics and the Russian CMR-Bank ("Center for International Settlements") also fell under the sanctions.
