Russian aircraft once again take off from Iranian airfield to carry out air strikes in Syria
Russian aircraft have once again taken off from the Hamadan airfield in Iran to carry out airstrikes on targets in Syria, Interfax reported, citing a statement released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Tu-M22M3 long-range bombers and Sukhoi Su-34 tactical bombers took off from Hamadan and carried out strikes on positions of the so-called Islamic State in the province of Deir Ez-Dour.
The bombers were covered by Su-35 fighters which are based the Khmeimim Air Base in Syria.
Russian aircraft first used the Hamadan airfield in Iran on August 16th. The US has suggested that by basing military equipment in Iran, Russia is violating UN Security Council Resolution 223, which regulates the implementation of the nuclear deal between the international community and Iran. Russia denies that its usage of the Hamadan airfield is a violation of the Resolution.
