Security Service of Ukraine says it thwarted a terrorist attack in Mariupol
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) reported on May 8th that they found a secret location in Mariupol stocked with ammunition which may have been intended for use in a terrorist attack in the city during Victory Day celebrations, as indicated in a statement on the agency’s website.
According to SSU, law enforcement authorities found 80 kilograms of gunpowder, 600 grams of trotyl, as well as grenades, grenade launchers and nearly 2,500 cartridges of various caliber ammunition at a frozen construction site.
"According to the report, diversionists intended to use the cache to carry out acts of terrorism during the Victory Day celebrations marking the 71st anniversary of the victory over Nazism and the anniversary of the seizure of the Mariupol City Police Department by gunmen," says the message of SSU.
A criminal case has been initiated and an investigation will be conducted in connection with the case. Who exactly created this hiding place with ammunition in Mariupol is not known.
This week a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Vadim Skibitsky, declared that the military has not ruled out the possibility of provocations by spy-subversive groups in the Donbass on May 9th. The Ukrainian intelligence agency also said that the pro-Russian fighters in particular are going to stir up subversive activity in the Mariupol area.
