The UN says it has reliable information about Russian troop movements in the Donbas
The UN Representative for Human Rights, Ravina Shamdasani, stated that the organization has reliable information about Russian troop movements in Ukraine, The Voice of America reports.
“We have received credible reports of Russia’s military personnel movements across the border both to and from Ukraine. It contains heavy weapons as well. And the information is reliable,” the UN representative stated.
Moreover, the UN report regarding the human rights situation in the Donbas states that about 2.7 million civilians in the temporarily occupied territory were denied their right to freedom of speech and to peacefully assemble.
The UN also noted that enforced disappearances, illegal detentions, torture and ill-treatment remain a deep-rooted practice both in the regions controlled by armed groups and in the territory controlled by Ukraine.
In the run-up to the publication of the report in respect to the human rights situation in Ukraine, the UN charged the Security Service of Ukraine and fighters with “systematic torture.”
