The US Congress will speed up recognition of the Holodomor
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said at a press conference in Washington that the US Congress would speed up the consideration on the resolution on recognizing the Holodomor (a man-made famine) of 1932-1933 as the genocide of the Ukrainian people, the Presidential Press Service reports.
“First of all, the result of the meeting is that I raised the issue of considering in Congress of the Resolution on recognizing the Holodomor as the genocide of the Ukrainian people,” said Poroshenko and added that he received assurances to speeding up the consideration of this important issue for Ukraine.
The President noted that he had meetings with the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the US, Representative Paul Ryan, with the leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, Representative Nancy Pelosi, and other congressional representatives.
Earlier it was reported that the Senate of the State of Washington had adopted the Resolution on the recognition of the Holodomor in Ukraine 1932-1933 as genocide.
Poroshenko arrived in Washington on a working visit, in the course of which he met with US President Donald Trump.
