On January 24th, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that approximately 300 people were killed by the H1N1 swine flu virus or acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in Donetsk. The occupation authorities of the Donbas region are unable to provide the local population with needed medical care, leading to an outbreak of the illnesses. The Chief Directorate of Intelligence noted that tensions in the Donbas conflict continue unabated.

The Deputy Minister of Health Care of Ukraine, Igor Peregynets, reported that since the beginning of epidemic season of 2015-2016, 72 cases of deaths associated with H1N1 swine flu virus and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) were recorded in Ukraine. Peregynets noted that the epidemic threshold has been exceeded in Donetsk and Rivne regions while Vinnitsya, Kiev, Kherson and Chernihiv regions are nearing critical state.

Epidemiologists warn that those at highest risk are children, pregnant women, people over 65, overweight people, diabetes suffers and those with chronic heart or lung deceases.
