Ukraine to Conclude Large Rail Contract With Turkmenistan
The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Hennadiy Zubko and Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Satlik Satlikov agreed on a business venture whereby Ukraine would supply 1,500 rail cars to Turkmenistan. 750 of them have already been made available for use.
Satlikov conveyed Turkmenistan’s interest in non-standard rail cars and vehicles from Ukraine, to be used on a railway along the TAPI gas pipeline. The Turkmen export commission is reportedly now studying the possibility of supplying the rail cars from the Kryukov Railcar Building Works.
The gas pipeline is estimated to be 1,735 kilometers long, more than 700 km of which will be in Afghanistan territory. The pipeline will have a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The cost of the project is about $30 billion, which was invested by the United States and the Asian Development Bank. Construction is expected to be completed before the end of December 2018.
