Ukrainian Intelligence Releases Data on Russian Military Losses in the Donbas Region
According to Ukrainian intelligence, hundreds of Russian soldiers were killed in eastern Ukraine after the Minsk Agreements were signed.
According to the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Vadim Skibitskiy, from January to September of 2015, 627 soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were killed in eastern Ukraine. In addition, 2,155 soldiers were injured.
Skibitskiy stated in an interview, "I stress that Russian troops suffered significant losses after the signing of the Minsk Agreements, and during the continuation of the aggression of the occupying Russian troops on the territory of our state.” Skibitskiy also said that since the beginning of 2016, on the territory of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic, 42 Russian soldiers have been killed. "The Defense Intelligence Ministry has documents that confirm the death or injuries of Russian citizens on the territory of Ukraine," he said.
In August of 2015, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, said that Russia has two army corps in the Donbas region, totalling up to 35,000 troops. In addition, in eastern Ukraine there is a military reserve that consists of 21 task force groups of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, 15 battalions, and 6 companies, consisting of more than 9,000 Russian servicemen. The activities of these corps are supervised by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, using the headquarters of the Southern Military District. At least eight Russian generals are involved in military operations in the Donbas.
