UN seeks almost $300 million for 2016's Humanitarian Response Plan for Donbas
2.5 million Ukrainians affected by the conflict in the Donbas region will receive humanitarian assistance in 2016.
Agencies of the United Nations (UN), together with the Ukrainian government, have requested that donors donate $298 million to finance the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for 2016. This was reported by the UN News Center.
“Over nearly two years, the affected people, mainly the elderly and families with children, are trying to cope with the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine. The overall impact of various factors have led to both humanitarian needs and protection needs. These factors include security issues, landmines, destruction, injury, disturbance of the delivery of basic services, employment issues and restrictions on freedom of movement,” the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, Neal Walker, noted.
According to the HRP, the humanitarian supplies will be primarily distributed to the people living along the “line of demarcation” and those living outside of the government’s control areas.
The UN noted that the 800,000 civilians living along the “line of demarcation” are the ones that are most affected as a result of this conflict. Approximately 2.7 million people are living in and along this line as well as outside of the government’s control areas. They live in extremely difficult situations, and many internally displaced people still need help.
