OSCE Secretary General believes new aggravation between Russia and Ukraine is highly possible

Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung reports that the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Thomas Greminger stated that Russia might continue providing military assistance to the territories of Donbas which are not under Ukraine’s control.

He believes that the aggravation is a real possibility in the annexed Crimea or on the line of demarcation with the so-called Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.

According to Greminger, the political will to reconcile the conflict is missing.

“If the break-away “republics” will come under military pressure, they will again be supported by Russia,” he said.

The Normandy Group, he believes, will not solve anything in the near future.

The head of the OSCE is confident that an indication of movement towards reconciliation would be the release of the Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch Strait.

On November 25th, in the Kerch Strait, Russian border ships attacked and captured two Ukrainian ships and a tugboat. All 24 sailors on board were detained. Twenty-one Ukrainian sailor are held in Lefortovo detention center, and three wounded in Matrosskaya Tishina prison.
