Ukrainian President Poroshenko discusses with Trump his upcoming meeting with Putin
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the US President, Donald Trump, spoke about the upcoming meeting in Helsinki (Finland) where the US leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet, said Poroshenko on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels.
“We very thoroughly discussed President Trump’s upcoming meeting, which will take place in Helsinki on Monday, July 16. We also thoroughly discussed the issue of “Nord Stream-2”- stated Poroshenko.
Poroshenko said that he told his American counterpart about the progress of reforms in Ukraine.
At the same time, the Ukrainian President made it clear that he cannot disclose all details of the conversation.
“Some of what was said in my conversation with President Trump I cannot disclose, of course. This was a conversation based on trust and I am very pleased that Ukraine was given a priority. It was of utmost importance that we have this conversation with the President of the United States Donald Trump before Helsinki. I am completely satisfied with our conversation” he said.
The head of the Ukrainian state also stated that the priority of all the meetings including the meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the issue of Ukrainian political prisoners detained in Russia, including the release of the Crimean Tatar activists.
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will meet in Helsinki on July 16th. According to Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the presidents will to discuss a number of very difficult issues.
