Poland establishes a hotline to protect the rights of Ukrainian workers
A hotline for questions concerning legal employment and protection of rights has been established in Poland for Ukrainian workers, PAP news agency reports.
According to Polish Chief Labor Inspector Wiesław Łyszczek, there are cases where Polish employers who use Ukrainian migrant workers are paying them lower salaries or not ensuring adequate working conditions.
According to Łyszczek, over 2.5 million foreigners work in Poland and 800,000 of them work illegally. "The thing is, everyone should work legally and pay contributions to the Government’s coffers in Poland," he explained.
Consultations are provided on the hotline from 16:00 to 20:00. In particular, foreign citizens can learn more about the conditions of employment in Poland and how to write a complaint if an employer violates their working rights.
It is noted that there are fluent Ukrainian speakers available to answer calls on the hotline.
Earlier it was reported that as of next year, Poland will change employment rules for foreigners.
Starting September 1st, the existing regulations for the registration of job applications from the residents of the countries to the east of Poland will be terminated. Previously, it was very easy to get such a declaration. It is reported that new rules will mean an increase in the formal requirements for granting work permits.
Poland managed to revive the growth of its labor-force of citizens aged 15 to 70 with the help of Ukrainians. For the period of 2009-2016, it increased almost by one million people reaching 30.6 million. In Ukraine, for the same period it dropped by six million to 28.9 million people.
