Ukraine's counter-intelligence detains Ukrainian soldier who previously served in DPR
The Joint Forces Operation (JFO) counter-intelligence service of Ukraine detained a contract soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who previously worked for so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). According to the Ukrainian military, the soldier took part in prosecution of the Ukrainian citizens of Ukraine in the Donetsk region during his service in DPR’s militia.
“As a result of the operation, a resident of the Kherson region has been detained,” the report stated. “The detainee joined pro-Russian militants in 2014 and joined the headquarters of the DPR in Chasiv Yar, where he carried out the assignments of his commanders to identify and arrest patriotic citizens of Ukraine in the city of Artemivsk in the Donetsk region.”
The detainee left his service in the so-called Novorossiya’s People’s Militia and returned to the Kherson region, where Ukrainian cities were being liberated from pro-Russian bandit formations in July 2014.
“Later, in order to avoid punishment, the young man joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and afterward signed a contract for military service in one of the military bases of Joint Forces Operation ,” the statement reads.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under Article 260 (creation of unlawful paramilitary or armed formations), which provides a punishment for two to 15 years of imprisonment.
