Poroshenko convenes emergency meeting of National Security Council as Russian tanks cross Ukrainian Border in Luhansk region
Due to the aggravation of the situation in certain districts of the Luhansk region, President Poroshenko convened an emergency meeting of the Military Cabinet of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, as reported by the press service of the President.
Heads of law enforcement agencies reported to the President about the latest developments, in particular the illegal crossing of the Ukrainian border by the Russian tanks in the Krasnodonsky district of the Luhansk region, as well as the increase in the number of incidents of provocation by militants.
“In connection with the increase in the number of Russian soldiers, as well as the intensified activity of mercenaries, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are ready for any development of events to ensure the safety of civilians,” Poroshenko said.
The President also instructed the Ukrainian representative in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire and stabilization of the situation along the line of contact in the Donbas to intensify cooperation with the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to inform our Western allies.
Igor Plotnitsky, the leader of the LPR, removed Igor Cornet, the acting Minister of the Interior, from office. Cornet said that he did not intend to leave his post and, with the support of armed people, seized the administrative center of Luhansk on November 21. The OSCE has paramilitary equipment and military personnel in Luhansk.
