Ukrainian President urges Poland to review Institute of National Remembrance Act
Ukraine supports an initiative to review the Polish Institute of National Remembrance Act and Ukraine-related items, said Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during the opening ceremony of the memorial dedicated to Ukrainian victims of the Polish Farmers’ Battalions (Bataliony Chłopskie) and units of the Armia Krajowa (Home Army) in 1944. The memorial is in the Polish village of Sagryn, where the Poroshenko took part in a prayed for the victims of the events of 1944.
“We support the initiative to review certain amendments to Polish Act on the Institute of National Remembrance and expect that the positions related to the evaluation of the role of Ukrainians [in these events] will also be revised,” the President stated during the ceremony. “Tragic pages in our history, including the bloody conflict of 1943-1944, should serve as a warning. We, the current generation of Ukrainians and Poles, do not have the right to make the past influence the future."
