Putin expects TurkStream pipeline to be launched by the end of 2019
Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes that the land section of TurkStream will be ready as planned before the end of 2019.
"We hope that the work on laying the land part [of the TurkStream pipeline] will be conducted in the same quick manner, so as to launch the gas pipeline as planned before the end of this year," said the Russian President at a press conference following the Russia-Turkey negotiations.
“The joint strategic cooperation is being successfully carried out on the largest project, primarily in the energy sphere,” stated Putin. He emphasized that in November 2018, he and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan both participated in the ceremony dedicated to the completion of the offshore section of the TurkStream pipeline.
“Two branches of this most important project for Russia and Turkey were laid under the Black Sea in less than a year and a half. Each of them will allow the transit of 15.75 billion cubic meters of natural gas,” said the Russian president.
According to Putin, “launch of the new gas route will become of great importance not only for the energy security of the Republic of Turkey, but also for South and South-East Europe."
