Russia wants to send captured Ukrainian sailors for psychological and psychiatric examination
A Russian court issued a decree for three captured Ukrainian sailors to undergo a psychological and psychiatric examination. According to the lawyer Nikolai Polozov, such rulings will be issued for all the captured sailors during the two-week court hearings.
Polozov announced that on Tuesday, March 5, investigative actions were taken against three Ukrainian sailors: Serhiy Tsybyzov, Roman Mokryak Mokriak and Yuriy Bezyazychnyi.
"During the investigation, detainees and their lawyers were informed about the decision to appoint the outpatient psychological and psychiatric examination. Each prisoner’s defense plea stated that the 3rd Geneva Convention of August 12, 1949" On the treatment of prisoners of war "does not include any psychological and psychiatric examinations for prisoners of war, " wrote Polozov on Facebook.
In addition, the lawyers indicated that if contrary to the provisions of the international law norms, this examination is still carried out, they insist on ensuring the presence of a lawyer during its conduct.
"The norms of the Russian Federation legislation allow the presence of a lawyer during such an examination," he added.
According to Polozov, over the next two weeks, the investigation plans to acquaint all Ukrainian prisoners and their lawyers with rulings on the appointment of a psychological and psychiatric examination.
Earlier reports stated that the lawyers of Russia’s captured Ukrainian sailors prepare individual complaints to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
