Kremlin: new Ukrainian sanctions against Russia would be a violation of international law
The imposition of sanctions against Russia by Ukraine will be considered “a blatant violation of rules of international law,” stated the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“The package announced by the Kyiv regime can be compared with the “Magnitsky list”, another attempt to impose unilateral coercive measures that are contrary to international law and the practice of civilized international relations,” TASS cites Zakharova as saying.
Earlier, Ukrainian Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko stated that Ukraine has enough evidence of the Kremlin’s violations to warrant the imposition of personal sanctions against Russia’s leadership and officials.
On August 10, Ukraine filed a new international complaint to the European Court of Human Rights regarding Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia. Four thousand claims by citizens related to the events in annexed Crimea and the Donbas are also being considered by the European Court of Human Rights.
The European Parliament urged Russia to immediately release all Ukrainian political prisoners who were illegally detained, arrested and imprisoned.
