Russian Ministry of Defense reports death of 12 Al-Nusra Front commanders in Syria

In Syria, twelve field commanders of the Al-Nusra Front terrorist group have been killed, as reported by Interfax news agency, referring to a statement of the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to the Ministry, the commanders were killed during a Russian air strike.

One of the leaders of the group, Abu Mohammad al-Julani was seriously injured and is in critical condition. He lost his hand, said Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Defense Ministry, citing information from several independent sources.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft attacked on October 3rd. The terrorists’ location was discovered during a special operation.

“After confirmation was received from several channels of the arrival of terrorists and the meeting began with the command of the Russian forces in Syria, it was decided to conduct an air strike,” said Konashenkov.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, over 60 terrorists were killed. Among the field commanders killed was one of the assistants to the leader of the group and head of security, Ahmad al-Ghazali.

In March 2016, it was announced that Russian Special Operations Forces were in Syria. The personnel in this unit track the location of terrorist groups and coordinates air strikes.

At the end of September, the Ministry of Defense reported that five commanders of the Al-Nusra Front were killed in the Syrian province of Idlib. Before this, it became known that members of the group tried to capture a platoon of Russian military police, consisting of 29 people. As a result of the operation, three Russian soldiers were injured.

Two days ago, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that Russian and Syrian airstrikes on Idlib should not be ignored.
