Serbian President refuses to recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucić compared the situation with the Crimea, which was annexed by Russia, and the disputed region of Kosovo, which is trying gain full independence from Belgrade.
According to him, Serbia cannot recognize the Crimea as belonging to Russian because it can be used by Western countries in the dispute over Kosovo’ independence.
"If we were to do it today [recognize the annexation of the Crimea], we would have an analogy with Kosovo. They would say that according to this principle, Kosovo is also independent, and we have no right to fight for it, "said Vucić on the air of the TV channel Rossiya-24.
He stressed that Russia has no greater friend than Serbia, and there is no question about the friendship between the two countries.
"This is a question of political strategy and tactics, which implies that we have no right to risk our state and national interests," added Vucić.
In June last year, Vucić gave the same answer to the French magazine Le Monde when asked if Serbia recognizes the annexation of the Crimea by Russia.
