Taliban delegation visits Moscow after talks with the USA failed
A delegation of the Afghan Taliban visited Moscow, where they held talks with the Russian President's special representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov.
During the talks, the Russian side stressed the need to resume negotiations between Washington and the Taliban. The Taliban, in turn, reaffirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue with Washington. Before that, the Taliban wants to strengthen its negotiating position, with the support of regional powers such as Russia, China, Iran, as well as Central Asian countries. At the same time, the head of the Taliban delegation, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, stressed that the Taliban are ready to continue the war.
The meeting came days after the failure of the Taliban's talks with the United States on a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan. Stanikzai said the agreement with the United States was ready to be signed when President Donald Trump unexpectedly called the agreement "dead."
Trump refused to speak to the Taliban after the September 8 attack in Kabul that killed an American soldier and 11 others.
