Turchynov: in 2017 Ukrainian military advanced 10 km into the territory of the Donbas

The Ukrainian military advanced their military positions in the Donbas by more than 10 kilometers in 2017, as stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, Hromadske reports.

"It's nice to say that both 2016 and 2017 differed from the past in that we did not give up a meter of our land, moreover, our divisions in some areas advanced 10 or more kilometers and improved their positions. This is a fact," Turchynov said.

According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, all attempts to change the positions along the demarcation line for separatists and Russian troops "ended in fiasco."

"They were unable to capture a single town or move forward. On the contrary, I want to emphasize once again that our military has improved their positions, and today there are no forces in the occupied territory that could change that demarcation line that is established today,"  said Turchynov.

On February 2nd, the headquarters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the return of the town of Katerynivka in the Luhansk region under the control of Ukraine.

On January 31st it was reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine took control of Novoaleksandrivka in the Luhansk region. It had been in the "gray zone" since 2015.
