Ukraine concludes a contract with Polish companies for repair of 144 km of roads
Polish companies Unnibep and Drog-Bud have signed an agreement with Ukravtodor (Ukrainian State Agency for Automobile Roads) to repair Ukrainian roads near the Polish border. The 144 kilometers of road near the Polish border will be repaired for 60 million euros, which "Warsaw lent to Kyiv," as indicated by the head of Ukravtodor, the former Minister of Transportation of Poland, Slawomir Nowak, Radio Poland reported.
"These road projects should show the Poles that high-quality roads can be built in Ukraine and demonstrate to Ukrainians that European firms provide good quality at an affordable price. All Polish firms were selected through the competitive bid process," Nowak said.
He also stated that Polish firms would carry out the major repairs of six road fragments leading to border crossings.
It is noted that half of the work will be performed by Polish workers. 60% of the materials will be provided by Polish companies and the rest by Ukrainian companies. The first sections of the roads will be put into operation as early as next year, the rest will be completed by 2019.
President Petro Poroshenko promised to allocate 1.5 times more money to road repairs in 2018.
