Ukraine intends to stop water supply to separatist-controlled areas of Luhansk region
The Luhansk Energy Association (LEA) is preparing to shut down the Zapadna (Western) filtering station, which supplies water to the separatist-held territories of the Luhansk region, as announced by the Director General of the LEA, Volodymyr Hrytsay, Hromadske Radio reports.
"Permission from the Ukrainian National Power Company, UkrEnergo is needed to disconnection this facility. We have been requesting permission from UkrEnergo for a year and have not received any response. Today, the debt owed by this facility is 157 million UAH (5.8 million USD). I will remind you that 90% of this water goes to the uncontrolled territory of Ukraine," Hrytsay said.
The water supply to areas controlled by the separatists, such as Pervomaisk, Bryansk, and Kirovsk depends on the work of the Zapadna filtering station.
Hrytsay stated earlier that UkrEnergo will not allow the pumps to be disconnected from the Zapadna filtering station which is the main source of water in the LPR (Luhansk People’s Republic).
On November 6th, the LEA disconnected the Petrovska pumping station belonging to the Popasnyanska water supply company, which supplies 90% of the water to 500,000 residents of the LPR.
